Best answer for the Main Spring is to "tune the spring" or replace it with an aftermarket spring. It is also possible to place a small flat washer under the spring, but that doesn't actually do much good. Back off the smaller strain screw and then tighten the larger mounting screw. Then reset the strain screw.
To adjust the trigger look for the UPPER small hex screw on the back of the trigger module. Clockwise will increase the spring tension on the sear. Go in small increments and test. WARNING: You may have to re-apply a thread locker compound if you make large adjustments to the hex screw.
Pull the seat, side covers, tank shrouds and tank. Wipe down and dust off all areas over the valvetrain, or duct tape some paper toweling to keep dirt out. Remove valve cover and left case cover. Rotate the motor until the T mark aligns with the triangle mark on the case. Adjust both valve to .05mm gap.

The toggle bolt is designed with a thread that ensures a tight fit into the hollow wall. Once the spring toggle is properly fitted into the wall, the toggle bolt is then tightened using a screwdriver, creating a strong and secure anchor point. Spring Toggle Composition. As mentioned earlier, spring toggles mainly comprise the spring and …
Preloading doesn't make a spring stiffer, it just raises ride height/reduces sag. And starts the progression of the spring rate sooner in the stroke by whatever the amount of preload that was added. Just like a valve spring adding a .020" shim can raise static preload 2-5 lbs. while over the nose may increase 15-20 lbs.
and had my trusty XR manual with me, simple enough. I did TDC, pulled the cap and got the feeler gauge .002 and was baffled. The manual states "Insert a feeler gauge between the valve stem which from the diagram and the video I assume is the bottom of the rocker arm where the adjustment screw goes through, which in turn should be pretty …
Posted March 8, 2018. Picked up a 2008 xr650l from the original owner with 4600 miles. Has all the original parts and bigger tank and after market wheel with a Cush hub. Looks well taken care of pretty excited. Want to put the factory suspension link back on.
The first thing I would do is to go to and use the spring calculator to see if the stock fork and shock springs are right for your weight, that is your riding weight with all of you gear on. If all is well then have someone help you set the rear shock sag to 95-100mm of sag with you on the bike and wearing all of your gear.
You can unscrew the pivots with the correct allen keys in inch on top of the cigar, and when it done you can seat your spring in the notch you need and rescrew.
Did some digging and it looks like there's a threaded collar on the shock. Not sure if it's designed to be softened up by adjusting preload, but you could always count the threads on one side of the collar and then loosen it. Though, you might raise the bike a little. If that doesn't work, it looks to be a fairly standard shock that just uses ...

The stock rear gets way to compressed once you adjust it to proper sag for a heavier rider so the only choice is an aftermarket spring. No optional factory springs are available. Progressive Suspension springs for the rear are all over ebay at times.

You can do aftermarket adjustable upper and lower OR slot the factory hole locations. Race it, break it, fix it and repeat.
May 25, 2006. Oddometer: 344. I thought I might try to lessen the tension, I ride with a very lite squeeze on the grip and the new heated grips seen smaller diameter, hence stronger squeeze required. I know, cruise control, etc, but as much as anything I am curious about the mechanism in the throttle housing. #3.
Oddometer: 962. Location: odessa MO/donna TX. Changing the fork oil is pretty easy and fairly cheap with a good dollar/reward ratio. Try some 10 or 15 wt fork oil at a higher level; i.e. add slightly more oil than recommended. Good luck. #3. Harry Potter and ricardoguitars like this.

To tighten or loosen torsion springs, use a socket wrench to turn the adjustment nuts on the spring's shaft. Make incremental adjustments and test the door's balance after each turn. Achieve a balanced door by adjusting both springs equally. 5. Adjusting Extension Springs.
To clarify a bit - the stock shock spring is OK for your weight, but you will want to respring the forks. Something in the 0.46-0.48 range should be about right w/ about 1/2" of preload. Start with your compression clickers all the way out, then turn them in if you find yourself bottoming your suspension.

Just an example MARTIN ok lol. So depending on your weight will tell you if you can kinda stretch a tad bit if your close to what the stock spring is rated for. Sag with rider should be around 3 7/8 or 4 inches for most bikes dont quote me for XRL but im sure thats really close if its not already.
Kenzo. Posted October 9, 2008. Just knock the top spanner nut loose. Then grab the shock spring with both hands and turn it in the desired direction. One turn will raise/lower the sag 3mm. Then be sure to tighten up the top nut. . +1 just remove the seat, side number plate and have the back wheel off the ground.
4. Dirt and street rear compression: 8 clicks in from all the way clockwise. 5. Dirt and street rear rebound: 13 clicks in from all the way clockwise. 6. Suspension is stock. 7. No idea what current shock preload level is. I inherited the settings from the previous owner and these work pretty well on the street.
Squeeze the wings together. Once the toggle is in the closed position like this it will be small enough to pass through the hole. Gold ore basically looks like — well — a rock. In order to extract pure gold, refiners put the ore through a multi-step process. In the first step, the gold ore is crushed and ground into a fine powder. This step increases the surface area of the ore, allowing for better extraction of the gold particles. The next step is to separate the ...
The first main difference between Snaptoggles and Spring toggles is their size and weight capacity. Snaptoggles are usually smaller and can hold less weight than Spring toggles. Snaptoggles are typically used for lighter items, such as picture frames, while Spring toggles are ideal for heavier objects, such as televisions or heavy-duty …

Shock therapy spring adjustment. There was a thread on ride height a while ago that I cannot find. For those that have had their Shock therapy springs for a while and they have had a chance to settle how much adjustment is needed to get you back to the original ride height. Ex. X inches of preload raised the ride height 1".

Follow these steps for a balanced adjustment: Open the garage door completely to release tension from the extension springs. Secure the door in place using locking pliers or vice grips. Locate the S-hooks that connect the extension springs to the track hangers. Use pliers to remove the S-hooks from the track hangers.
The procedure is in the manual. Looking from the rear the door should overhang the rear panel by .5 to 1 mm. To adjust it says to move rhe striker in or out. After adjustment it should be raised or lowered to center in the latch when door closes. There are several pages before on adjusting the gaps around the door.
