A new and effective method for quartz-feldspar

Conclusion. In this study, a methodology for separating quartz was developed and tested on sediment and rock samples from the Himalaya. Method was able to extract pure quartz (95-96%) from the sediment and rock samples. SEM image analysis shows that proposed method was able to bring down feldspar content to ~ 4-5%.

The ZPC of quartz and feldspar (microcline) are at pH 2.0 and 1.0 respectively. These values are quite consistent with the other reported values [1]. Figure 1 illustrates the flotation of quartz and microcline as a function of pH when using sodium dodecylsulfonate (SDSO) as collector in the presence of Ca2+, Ba2+, Sr2+ and Mg2+.
