A hood behind the blade of a radial-arm saw directs sawdust up to the dust-collection duct. Handheld tools, such as random-orbit sanders and routers, don't easily connect to the large ductwork of a whole-shop system, and the small dust port on such tools chokes off airflow.
The radial arm saw produces a lot of saw dust. Now, contour your chute to the saw, curving the base of the chute up, to guide the sawdust toward the collection pipe. Form the top of the chute to hug the saw when it is parked. As you can see, the chips are all collected and there are no dust clouds. This is the "capture at source" that Penz advocates. I couldn't agree more. If you need to dado thicker pieces, you should make the shroud taller. I think that this is the best collection technique for a radial arm saw and I also think it is adaptable for most miter saws ...

Nov 2, 2014. I sort of did. I did do a cut with and without the dust collection and noted where the dust accumulated. Right along the fence ~4-6" either side of the blade cut.
